About

I am an accredited with I.A.C.P. I offer therapy both in person and online to adults and teenagers. My approach is integrative which means I draw on various therapeutic approaches to fit with the client's unique needs, experiences and goals. I have experience of working with a broad range of life challenges with a particular interest in working with anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationships and complex family dynamics. Central to how I work is the belief that each person holds within them the wisdom and capacity for healing and change that, is often blocked by the parts of us that we develop to protect ourselves from hurt and pain. I offer a warm, safe and grounded therapeutic space where together we can make sense of whatever is going on for you. Drawing on my background in social work I bring an awareness of the wider systems that shapes a persons experiences. I work collaboratively with my clients where together we will connect with your strength and inner resources to find a resolution and a more meaningful way forward. Taking the big step of reaching out for support and choosing a therapist can be daunting. I am happy to have an initial consultation at no charge to explore if working together might feel like the right fit for you.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualification B.A. Holistic Counselling & Psychotherapy (2019) Master of Social Work (2000) Bachelor of Social Science (1998)
Experience
6+ years in Psychotherapy
I qualified as a psychotherapist in 2019 and have 5 years experience working at University of Galway, Student Counselling Centre. I operate a private practice in Galway City. I qualified as a social worker in 2000. I have over 25 years experience working with individuals and families working in the area of child protection and welfare, older persons services and adult safeguarding. Through my career I have supported adults and children through a wide range of challenges and life transitions. I have a particular interest in the area of trauma and abuse, anxiety, grief and complex family dynamics.
Approach My approach is integrative, informed by person-centered values, trauma theory and systems thinking. I draw from a range of evidence-based models including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), reality therapy (RT), and internal family systems (IFS) - tailoring the work to what best meets your needs and goals. With a background in social work and psychotherapy, I bring a relational and systemic understanding to the challenges clients face. This allows me to hold both the emotional and environmental factors that may be influencing your wellbeing. In our sessions I work from the basis that each person has within the wisdom and healing power they need but this has been blocked by that part of us we develop to protect ourselves. I offer a safe and grounded therapeutic space where together we make sense of the issues at hand, connecting with 'the self', building clarity and empowering you to build new ways of coping that feels more like you.
